Gloomy facial features, dark backgrounds and all of a sudden dazzling colours. Contorted expressions, enigmatic looks, mysterious sceneries. Andreana Dobreva's works do exist in a world of their own, appearing to follow its very individual rules. Observers need a few moments before they are able to classify what it is they are presented with. The artist captures moments - sometimes common, sometimes seemingly peculiar or oscillating right around this very edge. Her portraits are shaped by a colour scheme of her own which in a disturbing way blends earthly dark nuances with pink-yellowy accents. Not forgetting the in some cases occuring ironical element giving those works a whole new semantic level.
